PRESS RELEASE FROM WLA
The World Lottery Association (WLA) has awarded British Columbia Lottery Corporation (BCLC) the WLA 2010 Responsible Gaming Award. The award recognizes a WLA member lottery organization for outstanding achievements in the area of responsible gaming.

BCLC was assessed as having the best overall responsible gaming program. Showcasing best practices, key innovations, and overall effectiveness of their responsible gaming program, BCLC demonstrated excellence in each of the ten WLA Responsible Gambling Framework (RGF) program elements.

“We are proud to receive this award,” said BCLC President & CEO Michael Graydon. “We’re particularly proud because all the organizations considered for this award are committed to the highest standard of responsible gambling. Clearly, our industry is demonstrating that we understand the value of delivering our products in a socially responsible manner.”

Competition for the award was open only to WLA RGF level 4 certified lottery members. The WLA reviewed submissions from eight member organizations located in North America, Europe, and Australia. The RGF is an internationally recognized certification program designed to assist lotteries in assessing their responsible gaming programs and keeping them on a course of continuous improvement. Currently, 17 lottery organizations are certified at RGF level 4.

The entries were judged by the WLA Responsible Gaming Independent Assessment Panel (RGIAP), chaired by Maria Sillanpaa, founding director of the Sustainability Advisory Group.

“BCLC showed a very strong focus on each of the ten WLA RGF program elements and were able to demonstrate that their Responsible Gaming program is integrated into their business,” said Ms. Sillanpaa. “The evidence they provided clearly showed that they consistently apply their RG program on a day-to-day basis.”

The award was announced at the WLA General Meeting during its 2010 convention and trade show in Brisbane, Australia on November 4. The biennial competition takes place in conjunction with the WLA Convention and Trade Show, the next one to be held at the World Lottery Summit 2012 in Montreal, Canada.
